FAMILY BACKGROUND

T'Leia's history is not mundane, to say the least. Her mother (and namesake) lived on Romulus for many years, assisting Ambassador Spock with the reunification movement. However, shortly after the Enterprise E left Romulus and the movement was pushed even further underground, she was discovered by the empire and thrown into prison. She escaped, years later, with the aid of a unification sympathizer. Meanwhile, Ambassador Davis Kianna was on Romulus, aiding a nearby planet in negotiating trade agreements with the Romulan government. He came across her in hiding, and offered her refuge on his ship. She returned to Betazoid with him, but hoped to someday return to Romulus and see the unification to its completion. To make an obvious story concise, a love story followed, between a Betazoid savior and the Vulcan woman he rescued. They were wed shortly after (after severe complications; a marriage had already been arranged between Davis and a Betazoid woman), and took up residence on Vulcan. The young Vulcan was completing diplomatic training when she became pregnant with T'Leia. A tragedy ensued, and she died in childbirth; T'Leia was saved only by a healer's mind meld with her mother. Davis Kianna named his daughter after her mother, and has often told her that she favors her now that she is older. T'Leia sees sadness in his eyes when he gazes upon her now, but she believes that he finds comfort in her achievements. She tries to exemplify the virtuous traits that her mother encased: integrity, kindness, and logic. She underwent both Vulcan and Betazoid mental training; she performs better as a touch telepath, but is as basically empathetic as most half-Betazoids.

When she was 14, her father left to aid the Vulcan/Federation cause in the Romulan civil war. She was rather rebellious as an adolescent, and did something rather foolish; she stowed away on his ship. Upon discovering her, her father was furious, but realized that there was nothing he could do about her presence. She stayed on the ship, and aided in caring for casualties that were beamed up. This was when she made her decision to become a doctor. But, in the midst of this revelation, another tragedy ensued. Her father was killed while aiding in the rescue of federation prisoners of war. In a stroke of luck, their ship fled Romulan space before the war ended, to take casualties back to Vulcan.

She has no family left; her grandparents are long since deceased, save her father's mother, who refuses to acknowledge her. She never approved of the fact that her son married a Vulcan. T'Leia attended the counseling school on Betazed, per the wishes of her father, and then, with nowhere else to go, she entered Starfleet Academy, and then Starfleet Medical. In particular, she studied xenobiology, becoming familiar with all forms of physiology, and acquiring an extensive background in the sciences.

PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL BACKGROUND
Physical Data:

T'Leia appears Vulcan at first glance, but that impression is soon nulled when one notices the charming smile that is not often absent from her countenance. Her hair is long and deep red, hanging in waves to her waist, and her eyes are characteristic Betazoid black. She is slender, graceful, and very attractive. However, living on both Betazoid and Vulcan, always looking "different" earned her so much ridicule as a child that she still feels insecure about her appearance.

Psychological Data:

T'Leia is an extremely open individual, friendly and considerate. She has a very insightful understanding of the nature of emotion, particularly for one with Vulcan blood. She has a very high psi rating, performing well as both a touch telepath and empath. She seems particularly concerted with keeping peace, and has a very pacifistic attitude. Though she was raised on Vulcan, she does not succomb to the Vulcan tradition of suppression of emotion; she is extremely passionate. She is an avid musician, and loves to play a Vulcan lyre and piano. Her greatest regret is that she never knew her mother, and she hopes to someday aid with the Vulcan/Romulan reunification movement, to which her mother gave so much of her life.

STARFLEET RECORD

For a little over a year, T'Leia served as the chief medical officer of the USS Malinche. She requested transfer without giving a reason, and none of her crewmembers (including Ledorman Ved, with whom she had an ill-fated romantic tryst) knew her reasons for leaving. She then became the CMO of the USS Integrity. After serving for only one month, a scandal ensued that ended her career as a doctor. She was accused of malpractice concerning the death of a Romulan defector that sought sanctuary on her ship. (Note: The details of this incident were deemed classified due to the nature of the defection). She was court-martialed and found innocent, but the incident shook her so much that she could no longer practice medicine, frightened of her own mistakes. She still has nightmares about the incident, and she doesn't like to talk about the details.

She considered leaving Starfleet altogether, but having no family or friends, had no where else to go. After overcoming a debilitating fight with depression, she returned to the Academy for a year and completed training as a Science Officer, for which she was already qualified due to her previous schooling. She served on several starships as a science officer and showed remarkable abilities. When she was offered the position of Chief Science Officer on the Malinche, she was nervous about returning, both because of her previous unexplained departure and her recent fall from grace.

The entire incident has left her skiddish and depressed; she hates to be reminded of what she has given up. However, she masks this pain with the shadow of what she used to be… open, friendly, and full of life. Only one who knew her well could sense that she has become a different person… and sometimes even she can forget the pain.
