FAMILY BACKGROUND
Alexander Schneider, son of Harry and Luanne, was born in a suburb of Boston in the former United States of America. His parents, his mother an Admiral from Starfleet and his father a former member of the Federation council, had both retired from their jobs and had Alex at a later stage than normal for married couples. They owned a small, traditional brewery and led quiet lives. Alex showed a great affinity for mathematics and, surprisingly enough, painting. He was a very active boy, and he still has fond memories of a particular lake near his hometown where he spent much of the summer months swimming. He learned a fair bit about various forms of alcoholic beverages in his later years at home and has a decent understanding of the brewing process itself.
After attending all the appropriate schools, and attending several extra centers for education during his break time, he enlisted in Starfleet Academy. He passed with, mostly, flying colors. He did get in trouble several times for arguing with the physical training officer and the combat instructors over some moral issues that they weren't really equipped to deal with. His classmates loved him, and he still tries to keep in touch with many of his companions who have spread out through the service. Alex's teachers thought him to be an excellent student, although a little opinionated at times. He graduated with a major in navigation and astronomy and a minor in engineering.
He was given his first assignment and immediately shipped out, after a brief farewell party with his friends and family. After beginning his service in Starfleet, he was praised by his peers and superiors alike as being an excellent helm officer. He was not a flying ace, but he was the best that a small ship like the one he was assigned to had seen in a very long time. He was careful not to let the praise go to his head and continued to expand his interests in as many fields as he could. He was soon known as the ship's resident computer system's guru, but he didn't stop there. He relished in knowledge and tried the impossible task of memorizing as much about starships as he could. Despite all this, he continued to paint and kept good ties with his family, although he only took any real length of time off to visit his dying father several years later.
PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL
BACKGROUND
Physical
Data:
Alex stands at 5 ft. 9 inches tall and weighs a hefty 175 lbs. While not in the best of shape, he does regularly exercise and his slight pudge is simply the effect of old age setting in. He hair is thinning at the back, but he still has a full head of it. His small mustache, which he keeps well groomed at all times, is whitening a little faster than the rest of his hair, which still has streaks of brown left over from his younger days. He has a few small scars, but nothing noticeable. He looks, essentially, like someone's grandfather.
---
Psychological Data:
Alex is of the very firm opinion that the brain is the greatest tool known to any species anywhere. He dislikes violence when unnecessary, and believes in avoiding it so firmly that it has often cost him a surprise attack or a swift victory in a combat situation. He is even reputed, by popular rumor, to have attempted negotiation with the Borg. As a whole, he tries to be friendly to whomever he meets and keep a jolly face on current circumstances. He is known to be over protective of his crew in some circumstances. He is also a firm believer in the importance of experienced captains remaining as captains, rather than ascending the rank ladder as Admirals. This would, later in his life, cause damage to his career.
STARFLEET RECORD
Alexander Schneider, while distinguishing himself as an excellent crewman and receiving several awards for meritorious actions, advanced through the ranks at a slow pace. Still undecided about what he wanted to do, he accepted promotions, but did not really work for them. After serving as an executive officer on board a survey vessel, he decided that he wanted a command of his own. He began to work harder and gain approval from his superiors. He was eventually promoted to his first command, a scout type ship called the Heidelberg. After several years he moved onto his next command, a Nebula class ship called the Nordic Hammer. The ship was, somewhat ironically, a research vessel and saw little combat action despite what the name suggested.
After only a brief tour on board the Hammer, he was given command of a Galaxy class star ship. He considered that to be the greatest honor of his life, and still relishes his time about that ship, the U.S.S. Vanderbilt. His time on board the Vanderbilt was temporarily interrupted by a program he attended, on an unnamed space station, where he was 'adjusted' to Intelligence techniques. Intelligence decided that he would be a perfect candidate for command of an Intelligence startup, but also came to the conclusion that they should allow Schneider to finish his term of service on board the Vanderbilt. After a couple more years, he was transferred to another training facility, and eventually assigned to the Malinche, as ship's Captain. He was offered the position of Admiral during this period, but refused the offer and accidentally offended one of his superiors. Alex has concluded that he will probably not get another opportunity to receive a promotion for quite awhile, which suits him fine.
