FAMILY BACKGROUND
Savar is a native of Tat'sahr, Vulcan's northermnost province, with the planet's mildest climate, and a position as one of its most important agricultural centers. It is also a land marked with some of the most visible reminders of Vulcan's ancient strife and warrior past, and these archaic passions have, perhaps unsurprisingly, made themselves mainifest in him. Savar's parents, Subek and T'pei, were among Tat'sahr's many greenhouse agriculturists. They were married by arrangement at 21, as is the Vulcan custom, and of their Pon Farr mating was born hteir son, Savar. However, while the two became business partners and good friends, they divorced when Savar was 3, finding it to be "the most logical and beneficial thing to do" for their future. Savar's upbringing was thus rather eccentric by Vulcan standards, shuttling back and forth between their homes, which really wasn't very hard, considering that they lived almost right next to each other.
As a child, Savar displayed a useful mechanical aptitude, as a rule picking up on the usage of tools and machines very quickly. however, his real interests lay elsewhere, in what many Vulcans think to be an unwholesome direction: combat. He was always fascinated by tales of heroism and battle, and of Vulcan's warlike days. He also retained a strong affinity for martial arts (he competed, very successfully, at wrestling), and a more violent temper than was normal for a Vulcan boy. When, at the age of 10, he came to the defense of a bullied half-Vulcan neighbor child, injuring the defender more badly than was felt necessary, it was obvious that there was a problem. (The other boy, however, became a good friend of his...but that is another story.)
In Savar's rural section of Vulcan , the majority of the population atypically followed not Surak, but Jarok [see below], and as Savar entered his teens, the demands of that school of logic, which demanded a different sort of emotional control, with the ability to express oneself more than the Vulcan norm, was very trying for him indeed. His aggression was more powerful than he had ever understood, let alone any others. In fact, he got worse before he got better. So much so, that in his late teens, he isolated himself from his community in the harsh deserts of the Cheleb-khor, Vulcan's worst desert, which formed the southern border of Tat'sahr. It was also where he and his compatriots under Jarok went to undertake the ordeals and visionquests that were the core of their techniques of emotional discipline.
Then, tragedy struck. During a trip to visit some firends off-world, T'pei, Savar's mother, was killed in a shuttle accident. Savar remembers crying at this point, for the first and only time in his life that he remembers. He was 20.
Over the next two years, Savar finally came to master himself. He survived his first Pon Farr alone, through meditation, an astonishing feat for someone supposedly so unable to restrain himself. With this accomplishment behind him, and with the help of his childhood friend Sebel (the half-Vulcan he'd defended so long ago, now in training to be a Vulcan priest of Jarok's way), he found the peace he needed. He could continue with his life, and he took it in a ver special direction: he joined the V'ket.
Nominally the infantry arm of the Vulcan Defense Force, the V'ket are in reality more of cermonial honor guard for high dignitaries and public occasions, as it is the fleet that will really protect Vulcan. Trained in the arts of Vulcan's warlike days, they are living repositories of Vulcan's proud, and not yet quite vanished, warrior tradition. They are also, to an extent, a social outlet for those whose violent streaks make them unsuited for life in Vulcan society at large. No follower of Jarok had joined the order in memory, but Savar did, over the reservations of its leaders and recruiters, who as a rule were followers of Surak. Savar graduated the gruelling 8-year curriculum of the Vulcan Institute of Defensive Arts, as they all did, at 30. Over th several decades that he served with them, Savar became proficient in, even qualified to teach, over a dozen or so styled of Vulcan weapons and martial arts, even some psionic pain-control techniques. All the while, he made informal studies of martial arts from other worlds, including, but not limited to, Klingon styles, Andorian duelling techniques, and Shaolin kung fu. He was always eager to learn more.
After more than 40 years in the V'ket, however, Savar wearied of it. He came to feel that his largely ceremonial role was unproductive and insufficiently challenging, if not a concession to the idea that the was too belligerent to be useful. Frankly, he wanted some action. And so, he joined the Starfleet Marines.
Not wanting to lose time to the 4-year Academy training course, and feeling the enlisted would see more action, Savar enlisted as a noncom. After a year's training and evaluation, his mechanical abilities got him assigned to the armored infantry, where he served his first tour of duty. He participated in a number of front-line actions in the Klingon and Dominion wars, including the liberation of Betazed. On many occasions his extraordinary hand-to-hand skills saved the day against Klingons and Jem'hadar alike. When his tour was over, he took assignment to a starship battalion, and so wa ssigned to the Malinche as Heavy Weapons Specialist.
Savar has few relatives living, these being restricted to his father, now entering his second century of life, and his grandmother, now quite elderly.
PHYSICAL &
PSYCHOLOGICAL BACKGROUND
Physical
Data:
Height: 5ft 10in
Weight: 168lbsA typical Vulcan of average height and build (although you'll not he's VERY well-toned if you ever see him with his shirt off.) He is distinguishable from other Vulcans only in that he eschews
the usual bowl-shape haircut in favor of parting his hair on the right side,a human fashion he has only recently affected.

Psychological Data:
Not all Vulcans follow Surak. Logic is like religion to them, and like all religions, Vulcan logic is divided into a number of differing sects, of which the way of Surak is merely the largest and most influential. One of the most important "other" schools of logic is the path of Jarok, and it is to this school of logic that Savar adheres.
"Tu-Jarok" differs from "Tu-Surak" chiefly in its differing approach to mastering the emotions. While Surak preached denial, Jarok, his great rival, sought to control the passions by understanding them. Rather than repress emotion entriely after the fashion of most Vulcans, followers of Jarok seek to confront it, acknowledge it, and come to terms with it. This is chiefly done through rituals of fasting and vision quests in the deserts of Vulcan. Jarok's followers have emotions, and they know it; they simply are not ruled by them. They are also known for their strong sense of justice and compassion, paramount virtues to their way of life.
Thus, people who meet Savar will find him less "stiff" than other Vulcans. Calm, rather than stoic. He also often seems to be pondering something very intently, and he is known for thinking ahead. He is capable of frankly admitting his feelings, when asked, and just as frankly stating that in spite of this, it is logic that guides him. Like most of his "faith", he questions whether the total objectivity of Surak's ideal is even possible, and even finds the normal Vulcan stance on emotion somewhat dishonest.
Savar is, however, more tolerant of other people's emotional behavior than most Vulcans. He can, to a point, appreciate humor, though he may not actually laugh. His behavior gets mixed responses from people; his willingness to admit his feelings is refershing to some, but due to his innate warrior mentality, the aggressive feelings he is known to voice can greatly unsettle. (e.g. "You are a murderer and a savage. I would like to kill you, if I could, but logic demands otherwise.") Although he is still a Vulcan, and logical, some do not find comforting the thought that only "logic" keeps this formidable character at bay.
Savar *is* a warrior, by inclination and training. Not that he is belligerent, or a savage (he's actually quite thoughtful, and surprisingly literate), but this is how he is, and always has, and always will be. Logic demands that he accept this, and he does so without shame, seeking to make himself as useful as he may in his fashion. He practices his skills relentlessly, this being his preferred method of spending his time. Otherwise, he prefers to read, and his taste for things martial and heroic runs from the tales of old Vulcan, to the Klingon sagas, to old Terran 2D movies and modern holo-novels. The heroic warrior archetype across ALL cultures is of interest to him. Unbeknownst to anyone, he has also been writing some stories of his own. There are often more logical and profitable outlets for passion than violence, and not *all* of his heart is on the battlefield...
