FAMILY BACKGROUND
Sokat Pavek was born on Bajor during the Occupation. His father was a Cardassian military officer who brought his wife to Bajor with him. But when Sokat was only 5 his families quarters were attacked by the Resistance. Sokat was kidnapped and his mother was killed in the attack.
The Resistance used Sokat as bait to capture his father and interrogate him for Cardassian secrets. Unfortunately Sokat's father didn't survive and Sokat was cut loose to fend for himself. He spent most of his childhood and teenage years on the streets, alone and terrified. The Bajorans treated him like scum because of his race and the Cardassians ignored or even were cruel to him because they thought he was a half-breed. The Occupation ended when Sokat was 17 and he immediately left Bajor on the first ship he could find.He made his way to the only place he thought would accept him, the Federation. But after getting to Earth he found he was only treated with the simplest courtesy.
After wondering for a while he decided to join the only group he knew had to accept him, Starfleet. After accepting his application he was immediately subject to an extensive interrogation by Starfleet before being sent to Starfleet Academy. Once there he astounded his teachers with his apptitude in science and engineering. They became his double major in the Academy and when he graduated he astonished the whole Academy by graduating in the top 10% of his class. The reason for his success was because he really had no social life to get in the way of his studies.
Unfortunately his race got in the way of a promising career and he was posted to a subspace relay station in deep space between Betazed and Trill. He spent the first year of his service onboard the aging station built before Starfleet determined that having only a single crewmember on deep space assignment meant too much stress. To Sokat it was a wonderful time where he could focus on his work and not have to worry about the people around him. But eventually a Starfleet Admiral on a grand tour of the sector saw the diligent work Ensign Pavek had been doing and decided to assign him to an active duty assignment. Now Sokat finds himself thrust back into the glare of the world he has been afraid to live in.

Psychological Data:
Sokat Pavek isn't at all like any other Cardassian, and its apparent after only a short conversation with him. He can be just as meticulous and planning as every Cardassian but he isn't the cold and proud person like his people. He is a compassionate and kind person that has taken the values of the Federation to heart and tries to accept everyone no matter their race, history, or anything. Because of his terrible experiences in childhood he is terrified of rejection and constantly tries to please the people around him. He hasa hard time conveying ideas to people he doesn't know, he gets a debilitating stutter when he's nervous and he's nervous A LOT. It is hard for Sokat to make friends because of his personality but mostly because of his race. But once you are his friend its a life-long relationship. He still regularly corresponds with his few friends from Starfleet Academy. He understands why the Bajorans did what they did when he was young but he dislikes the Cardassians for their overtly cruel ways. All that Sokat Pavek has been looking for all his life is acceptance and he tries very hard everyday to dissolve the stereotypes about him just because of his race.

4 years at Starfleet Academy, graduated in top 10% as an Ensign with major in Science and Engineering.
1 year after graduation onboard Subspace Relay Station 21-Bravo in deep space between Trill and Betazed.
EVENT HISTORY
Sokat Pavek was recently promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and Chief Engineer aboard the Malinche when he was forced to take command after Lieutenant Denieros was incapacitated during an encounter with a Romulan Warbird. During the subsequent crippling of the Malinche and multiple firefights in Main Engineering due to parasitic infection Lieutenant Pavek and the Engineering crew managed to affect repairs that held the ship together and allowed them to reach a starbase.
The damage inflicted on the Malinche and the firefights in Engineering caused heavy casualties on the Engineering crew itself, half of their number being killed while nearly all the rest including Pavek himself were wounded to one degree or another.
During the repair and refit of the Malinche at the Starbase Lieutenant Pavek was given his new position and rank.
