FAMILY BACKGROUND
Anaara was born on the 24th of May in the Chiba region of the Tokyo megalopolis. Her mother, Japanese microbiologist Kimiko Ayatsura, had been with family for the birth of her child; her father, Soren Jaxel, was on Betazed with the couple's oldest son, Masahiro. Soren, who worked at the Federation Consul on Betazed, brought his wife and new daughter back to Betazed where they lived for eight more years. Anaara attended school there for two years, attending the Betazed equivalent of preschool and kindergarten. During this time her younger sister Ayame was born; five years after Ayame's birth, the family moved back to Chiba.
In Chiba, Anaara attended Kamigyou School. Her teachers described her as a bright but unmotivated child, who breezed through her classes, but was never actually interested by them. She graduated the Primary level 'with flying colours,' advancing to the Secondary level. Her six years in Secondary were unchallenging mentally, but physically they were quite difficult. Anaara had been born with a recessive form of epilepsy, which had remained dormant until a head injury sustained in a schoolyard fight. Anaara's usually tranquil attitude had been pushed too far by a classmate, provoking a violent fistfight. The other student had knocked her back, and reeling, Anaara slammed her head into a volleyball net pole. Her initial head injuries were easily treated, and there were no permanent repercussions from the injury, until two weeks later Anaara collapsed during class in a seizure. She was taken to Seiroka Hospital in Tokyo, where the Starfleet Doctor-in-Residence quickly identified the epilepsy. Anaara was dealt with quickly, personally attended to by the Starfleet doctor. In awe of the man who had so easily treated her, she decided that when she grew up, she would be a Starfleet doctor just like him.
With this conviction, Anaara raced through her last four years at Kamigyou, anxious to join Starfleet Medical and become a doctor. Weeks after graduation, Anaara left Chiba for San Francisco, enrolling in Starfleet Academy. She soon found, however, that unlike her mundane work at Kamigyou, classes at the Academy were actually challenging. Remembering the doctor from her childhood, she was determined not to fail, and accordingly devoted herself to studying. Mathematics and engineering gave her the most trouble, as did her temper. She was involved in several minor fights, but only one threatened to get her expelled. A verbal argument with her roommate escalated to a full-out fight. While at Kamigyou, Anaara had studied traditional martial arts, and while she wasn't ever a master of them, she knew enough to do significant physical damage – and did. They both ended up with several broken bones, causing a good deal of property damage to their living area aboard the training ship USS Ulysses. Their captain, Ivis Latime, called them before a board of inquiry aboard the ship, to see whether their case was enough to take before the Academy Board. Fortunately for the girls, the board moved to keep their case in-ship, Latime personally exacting their respective punishments.
PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL
BACKGROUND
Physical
Data:
Approximately 4'11" tall (149cm metric) and 92lbs (42kg metric). Black hair cut at about mid-back, usually kept in two braids bound into buns at the back of her head. Black eyes, with the narrow shape characteristic of her Japanese heritage. Overall, Japanese features and colourings dominate Betazoid ones, though her nose is more pronounced than a purely Japanese nose. A few scattered freckles across her nose and cheeks.
---
Psychological Data:
Anaara is frequently stereotyped as an aggressive, violent woman, a trait for which her brother gave her the nickname Senko: war-child. In part, this is true – when sufficiently provoked, Anaara explodes, but it takes quite a bit to push her this far. Normally, she's quiet, methodical, very stubborn, determined, and 'gentle as a summer breeze.' Counter to expectations, she prefers to follow orders rather than to give them. Like her mother, Anaara believes in the sacredness of nature and the wisdom of elders. Unlike her sister and father, she has very weak empathic abilities, but has never tried to develop them.
From growing up mostly in Japan, Anaara speaks fluent Japanese and English, and has learned some Betazoid. Her spare time is spent in quiet pursuits, like Japanese calligraphy learnt from her mother and grandfather. She enjoys creating holoprograms based on outdoors settings from various planets to relax after duty shifts.
STARFLEET RECORD
Anaara did eventually graduate, and was assigned to the USS Gemini as a staff nurse. She had come with two marks – for fighting – on her record. Captain Miller recommended she meet with Counselor Ratash to discuss anger management, who in turn passed Anaara to Eirlys Weylin, Ratash's assistant. Anaara liked the quiet counselor. Though Eirlys didn't feel Anaara needed to genuinely meet with her often, the two had frequent 'sessions'. Over the next three years they worked together, until Eirlys was reassigned to the USS Vega. Two years later, Miller being convinced that Anaara wasn't as aggressive as she'd been when she joined the crew, Anaara was given the recently-vacated position of Head Nurse.
Postings:
6 years aboard USS Gemini under Captain R. Miller; served as Staff Nurse for 5 years, recently promoted to Head Nurse.
