PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL
DESCRIPTION
Mitch Rembrandt, as does help him with his authoritative demeanor,
dons a neatly trimmed goatee that complements his short, militaristic
(yet stylish) hairstyle. That, with the very beginnings of aging (on
his otherwise smooth and muscular face), leads others to hypothesize
that he is a bearer of command at first glance. The marks of life's
burdens and its harshness have left one significant mark for
Rembrandt to always remember, and that is the noticeable seven inch
scar stretching across his upper torso. Imprinted permanently onto
the back part of his right shoulder is the magnificent and
mysterious, yet beautifully constructed, tattoo of a phoenix being
born out of fire. Both marks have had a lasting reflection upon
Rembrandt's experienced personality.
Rembrandt has taken a special interest in the little pleasures in life, as the circumstances of his duty obligations have left virtually no room for anything but. Delicacies such as exotic and well-prepared foods have enticed his interest, and there is always the subtleties for the pursuit of women, but Rembrandt found that particular longing extinguished as war and his entrance to the admiralty bore the majority of his time. The affects of mild bitterness have also forced the ability to love to be set aside on the back-burner, taking second best to the very mute, yet important, quest for revenge for wrongs done unto him.
A passionate man, Rembrandt can love better than most men, but has a dedication for vengeance just as intense. When done significant hurt by those who wish him harm, he has a clarity for setting his mind on the one task of getting his man (or men). Revenge isn't his typical daily state, but it does overcome him when situations or people remind him of the betrayal done unto him. He has a wide multitude of emotions, all important, and all culminating to what will be his final destiny, which was set under way by the manner of his birth.
A dark and wry sense of humor aids him in some cases, but can tear him asunder in others. But such is an asset experienced by a man who has had a slight emotional imbalance. Rembrandt is a sort of closet romantic, but most officers working with him would not suspect it, and broken relationships have scorched meaningful scars onto his heart. Yet the deaths of friends and colleagues have had the most lasting repercussions on Rembrandt's personality, and he has come to face, if not accept, that death is the one constant in the universe.
PERSONAL HISTORY
Born to a virgin mother on a colony bordering Tzenkethi territory,
Rembrandt had never the fascination for space or the stars, but the
dream of leading others and himself to greatness. He followed his own
path in life, leading him to service in Starfleet, and the evolution
of the numerous passions that Rembrandt would soon integrate into his
once-innocent personality.
His lifestyle at Starfleet Academy would be filled with extra-curricular martial art activities, learning the ways of karate with many of his fellow peers. His grades and effort into many of his classes were average to exceptional; the courses he excelled at were naturally of the command variety, while the courses he barely weeded through dealt in the sciences. Experience, though, would come to be the main teacher Rembrandt, or Remmy has his classmates so affectionately nicknamed him, would adhere to.
STARFLEET
HISTORY
Rembrandt would ascend the ladders of importance and positions at an
alarming rate, blowing other candidates for same posts clear out of
contention. Even from the day after graduation, Rembrandt has always
competed in the high stake games of espionage and covert work for
Starfleet Intelligence, being selected as one of the few who could
handle acting as a spy. His work during those years were lonely,
never leading to any sort of lasting relationship, friendship or
otherwise. Although classified on his official record, Remmy had
lasting imprints on Romulan society, including the discovery of
several documents that would force anti-Federation politicians out of
office.
Remmy proved himself the most when he was unknowingly pitted against the Romulan Tal Shiar, the secret service of the Romulan people. This predicament, known only by few, caused the death of over two-hundred Romulans. Though he was acclaimed on the down low for the information Remmy brought back to Intelligence, he never forgave himself for the tremendous loss of lives on his account. Thus was the first heavy blow inflicted upon him.
Rising through the ranks and different missions, he was transferred to a unique and powerful unit, consisting only of the top twenty men and women Starfleet Intelligence had to offer. This covert operations unit reported solely and directly to the Commander-in-Chief of Starfleet Intelligence, engaging in activities that bordered extreme (note: if compared to the deeds Section 31 has done, though, it wouldn't exactly match it). After a couple of years of service, Remmy was given command of the unit, a direct order from the CNC upon the unit leader's demise.
On Stardate 51978.9, the dissolution of the unit was commenced by one of its own, a trusted friend of Remmy's. An evident Cardassian spy, Gul Vlamek was able to murder eighteen members under Remmy's command, leaving only one other, in addition to himself, alive. [Transcript of these events can be found here.] Rage burned within Rembrandt, a feeling of betrayal on a scale previously unimagined. He had let one of his own betray him, and it took almost the entirety of the subsequent year to remotely come to terms with that. Fleet Admiral Jordan Premo felt his recuperation able enough to give Rembrandt a promotion and command of a new vessel on Stardate 52799.87. The Malinche's commanding officer was transferring himself to a remote outpost to conduct scientific work, and as such Rembrandt was called in to fill in the void.
